How to Make an AI Character Card for Roleplay

To make an AI character card, define who the character is, what scene they start in, how they speak, and what the user should do next. A strong card gives the AI enough structure to stay consistent without removing room for interactive roleplay.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. Start with the user fantasy: decide what role the user plays in the scene.
  2. Write the persona: include motivation, speech style, emotional hooks, and limits.
  3. Create the opening scenario: give the first chat a concrete place and tension.
  4. Add a greeting: write one message that makes the user want to reply.
  5. Test the card: run a short chat and revise unclear or inconsistent details.

Good character cards

Good cards are specific, playable, and easy to continue. They give the AI a stable identity and give the user a clear role in the scene.

Weak character cards

Weak cards list traits without a scenario, use vague personality labels, or start with a greeting that gives the user nothing to respond to.
